The eight-day holiday of Chanukah, the festival of lights, starts on a different day each winter, and in 2024 the first day is actually Dec. 25. Therefore, Chabad of Fremont will host its 12th annual Chanukah Lighting on the 29th, the fifth day of the festival, at the Downtown Event Center. This event is a staple of the holiday season and brings together hundreds of people from all walks of life to celebrate the universal messages of freedom and light.
Local dignitaries and city officials will attend and the event will feature a giant Balloon menorah. Each year has a new unusual menorah, and past ones have been made of ice or LEGO bricks. Complimentary Hanukkah donuts and holiday treats will be served, and the DJ will keep the night fun with Chanukah music. The event will also feature a craft corner and complimentary gifts for the first 300 attendees.
“Our response to rising anti-semitism must never be to cower or hide our faith,” said Rabbi Moshe Fuss “The story of Hanukkah shows the tremendous power of light to overcome darkness. There is no better response to the negativity we encounter than to gather together in even greater numbers and celebrate the light of the menorah and the timeless lessons of Chanukah.”
