The spirit of community service is burning bright at Castro Valley High School. At an event held on Oct. 20 in the school hall, two dozen enthusiastic students officially stepped forward to charter a brand-new Leo Club.
The Charter Celebration Ceremony marked the official birth of the campus chapter, bringing together students, educators and veteran Lions Club leaders to witness the induction of the charter members and the installation of the club’s inaugural officer team.
Sponsored by the local Lions Club of Hayward Silicon Valley, the club organizes students to engage in local service projects, develop leadership skills and collaborate with global peers to address community needs.
Past district governor James Varghese presided over the evening’s proceedings and led the students and officers in reciting the official Leo Oath. Past district governor Linda Griffin and vice district governors Manju Pothuhera and Koshy John attended to show their support for the new generation. The charter night and the club’s first official meeting was coordinated by club advisor Lion Breda Sands and faculty advisor Yardley McNeil.
With their officers officially installed and a robust roster of 24 founding members, the Castro Valley High School Leo Club is already setting its sights on upcoming community initiatives, ranging from local environmental cleanups to youth mentorship and food drives. As these young leaders roll up their sleeves, the future of community service in Castro Valley is undoubtedly in exceptionally capable hands.
