On Saturday, July 11, Newark Vice Mayor Matthew Jorgens and Newark Memorial High School history teacher Shelby Ortiz will host a walking tour of old town Newark, sponsored by the Washington Township Museum of Local History.
The tour will begin at 11am at the corner of Rich Avenue and Sycamore Street and will cover about a square mile. Participants will visit many sites that were crucial to the founding of the city of Newark while learning of the stories of the people and industries that helped create the Newark of today.
The tour is free, but a suggested donation for the tour is $5 per person. A tour booklet with information and photographs is included. Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome.
