Newark Little League team goes undefeated

The Phillies end their season with a perfect 23-0 record

The Phillies Newark Little League team had a long tiring season. But the Minor Division team isn’t complaining.

The team, made up of players aged eight to 11, played 23 games this season. As each game began to add up, so did their winning streak, concluding their season as an undefeated team with a 23-0 record.

“These players were eager to prove themselves and put in daily work on and off the field,” said Phillies parent Whitney Gutierrez.

On June 4 the Phillies played in the Newark Little League Minor Division championship game against the A’s. The team secured the win which launched them into the Tournament of Champions (TOC) championship game against Fremont’s championship team. The Phillies were unstoppable as they claimed their second champ title of the season.

The determination and commitment that the boys needed was a reflection of their head coach Juan Carlos Gomez Leyva.

“Juan provided practice every single day. He showed up for his team 7 days a week and instilled a strong confidence in each and every player,” said Gutierrez. “Coach Juan taught these boys to communicate constantly, on and off the field. This communication allowed them to clinch every win this season.”
