On Saturday, June 6, Newark Symphonic Winds (NSW), under the superb direction of Richard Wong, will present a free summer concert.
The evening begins with “Cotton Ferry Expedition” by Ralph Ford, a musical journey along the great Mississippi. Next will be a George Gershwin composition, “An American in Paris,” and “The Rakes of Mallow from the Irish Suite” follows. The first half concludes with “A Childhood Remembered” by Rossano Galante.
After intermission, the second half features the wonderful music of the Pleasantones Clarinet Quartet withTony Altwies, Sydney Moura, Brenda Nixon and Kathy Vork. They’ll perform three tunes: “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore,” “Java Jive” and for fun, “Three Blind Mice.”
The symphony will then return to the stage with the “Carmen Suite” by Gorges Bizet, arranged by Jack Bullock. Next will be a haunting composition by John Barnes Chance, “Incantation and Dance.” “At the Movies with Hans Zimmer,” includes selections from Man of Steel, Inception and The Dark Knight Rises.
Chris Sharp’s “An American Spectacular” ends the evening with familiar patriotic tunes.
Fremont Bank Foundation has generously sponsored this performance. As always, the concert is free of charge, and no tickets are necessary. As a reminder, we often have a full house at our performances; therefore, attendees should plan on arriving a bit earlier than 7pm to get the seating preferred.Summer concert
