Resident complains about lack of coverage for local child separated from his family by ICE

My name is Lisa. I’m a lifelong resident of Newark and a journalist in the Peninsula. As a local reporter, I feel the deep importance of keeping our communities educated and aware of their surroundings, but I feel that there is a huge lack of hard news coverage in the Tri-City.

I was disappointed to see this publication did not write about the deaf child who was deported without due process from a Fremont school. State Superintendent Tony Thurmond issued a press release about it on Friday [March 6]. I would love to see our local paper pick up this important news and report on ways families can prevent or mitigate these tragedies.

Note: This since letter was submitted, the paper did publish an update on the deaf child who was deported.
