The Hayward City Council received construction project updates from their public works department on March 17.
Instead of reading off a list of capital improvement projects and their current status, city staff presented a dashboard of projects and demonstrated how to use the website page. Anyone interested in checking out what is being built in the city can go to ciphayward.clearpointstrategy.com.
The interactive dashboard is neatly categorized and the user experience is intuitive. The categories include road and street projects, water system projects, sewer system projects and livable neighborhoods.
Clicking on a category opens a list of projects with details. The details include how much of the project is completed—shown with a percentage—the month and year of when the project will be done, tasks being done and reasons for delays and a link to the project description, a picture and budget breakdown.
Councilmember Julie Roche asked about the recent fatalities on city crosswalks last month and how the department will address pedestrian risks. Public works director Alex Ameri said they are looking closely at more than a half-dozen intersections in their “high-injury network” and implementing quick solutions to reduce injuries. City staff said there will be a street safety work session on Tuesday, March 24, at the city council meeting where the public is invited to provide feedback.
There will be more details on how the city plans to prevent more fatalities after the deaths of two women last month. The women, both 59 years old, died while walking on crosswalks within a span of a week. The deaths happened on Feb. 14 and 17.
