Two men were killed on Thursday evening in a single-vehicle crash on Thornton Avenue near Hickory Street, said police.
First responders with the Newark Police Department and Alameda County Fire Department arrived at about 5:28pm on Sept. 25 and found one occupant had been ejected from the vehicle. Despite immediate medical aid, both men died at the scene.
Police identified the driver as a 33-year-old Hayward resident and the passenger as a 31-year-old Union City resident. Their names have not yet been released pending notification of their families.
According to officials, this is Newark’s first fatal traffic collision of 2025. The Newark Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating the cause of the crash. It is not yet known whether drugs or alcohol were factors.
