In 2024, Olive Hyde Art Guild’s landmark “Holiday for the Arts” show returns for its 40th year. The popular Fremont fundraiser continues to grow in attendance and success each year, and this year’s dates are Friday, October 18 through Sunday, October 20.
The event is a wonderful three-day Gala, show and sale of original fine art and quality hand-crafted items by Bay Area artists who have been screened for the show. The event will open with a Friday Night Gala on October 18, from 5:30pm – 9pm. For the $20 ticket price, gala attendees are treated to savories, sweets, coffee, wine and beer, all contributed by local establishments and Art Guild members. The Gala offers the first opportunity to view and purchase items of art, and the sale continues free to the public on Saturday and Sunday.
The Holiday Show & Sale is held at the City of Fremont Olive Hyde Art Gallery & Art Center across from Mission San Jose. The charming setting consists of the three-room Gallery building and upper Mission Room building, separated by a brick courtyard which offers a festive outdoor area on Gala Night for food, OHAG’s famous Wine Bar, live background music, socializing and shopping!
The ticketed opening Friday night gala is usually attended by over 500 people. Saturday and Sunday are estimated at 300-400 each day. Attendance for the three days is well over 1,000 people. The event draws from Fremont’s diverse population, business and neighborhood communities, City of Fremont and Alameda County officials and staff, visitors of all ages from all around the Bay Area, OHAG members, friends and families. Newcomers are always welcome at the gallery!
Each year an accomplished member artist is invited to donate an original artwork for a drawing on Gala night. The 2024 Featured Artist is photography artist Scott Capen. Michael McNevin, Singer/Songwriter will perform at the Gala as well. More than eighty local and out of area artists will be participating this year, with a fascinating and extensive array of art that includes paintings, photography, ceramics, glass, metal, jewelry, fiber, wood and holiday goods.
Funds raised from the Holiday Show & Sale support the following: art in local schools, high school and Ohlone College student art scholarships, student art awards, payment of art program fees and purchase of art supplies for children in need, purchase of art books for public library, special art workshop for developmentally disabled adults, capital improvements at the Olive Hyde Art Gallery, special gallery exhibits and gallery promotions for all exhibits.
