Carrying colorful balloons and placards, shouts of glee greeted the visitors who entered the classrooms of unsuspecting teachers on the morning of June 3. It was the annual surprise visit by members of the Fremont Education Foundation, accompanied by school district staff, who were there to bestow Innovative Teacher Grants on a number of Fremont teachers.Disability Awareness Day

To help younger students understand and learn more about classmates with special needs, Fremont’s Special Education teachers and staff planned a Disability Awareness Day at Grimmer Elementary on May 31. Aligned with the school’s anti-bullying campaign, the event was organized by Resource Specialist, Joni Clark. The daylong program was filled with hands-on activities for first, second and third graders geared to help them experience and understand what it is like to have a disability.Compassion Weekend cleans up at Mattos Elementary

Mattos Elementary School in Fremont was a hub of activity on the weekend of April 27 – 28 as a group of industrious volunteers were participating in Menlo Park Presbyterian Church’s (MPPC) annual “Compassion Week” activity. Mattos was the lucky site selected for receiving the “sprucing up.” Supporting the MPPC church were additional groups of volunteers from Centerville Presbyterian Church, Jubilee Christian Center, Girl Scouts, and local community and business members.
