Re-dedication of sports center
By Rhea Serran
UNION CITY, Calif.
-- The City of Union City, Mayor and Council, former Mayor Mark Green, City staff and the Union City community will gather on March 16, 2013 to re-dedicate the Union City Sports Center as the Mark Green Sports Center in recognition of Greenís many contributions and effective leadership that were essential for construction of one of Union Cityís premier civic facilities.
During a distinguished career of public service to Union City spanning 26 years, culminating with 19 years as Mayor, former Mayor Green was a tireless champion of physical fitness, sports, Leisure Services programs and the development of parks and recreation facilities (among many other things). When the City conducted its first, and only, Park & Recreation Master Plan in the late 1990ís, Green made sure the key infrastructure elements of the plan, including a Senior Center and Sports Center, became priorities for development.
The new facility was dedicated on March 3, 2007 and has been very successful ever since, with Green a well-recognized fixture in the fitness center and gym.
All are welcome to attend the re-dedication ceremony at 6 p.m. at the Sports Center, 31224 Union City Boulevard, Union City.
