Since it was founded several years ago, the Peter Sategna Educational Foundation has awarded more than $180,000 of scholarship funding to various organizations to assist with the start or completion of higher educational goals or learning a trade to enable an individual to enter the work force with a set of specialized skills.

On July 17, 2012, Hayward Mayor Michael Sweeney presented local, high school graduating senior Marlene Marquez with the Mayor’s Award, a scholarship check for $10,000 to assist in paying for college. The Peter Sategna Educational Foundation funded this year’s award. For Marquez, it makes the difference between attending community college and going to university. She hopes eventually to study Medicine. Councilmembers Mark Salinas and Francisco Zermeno also participated in selecting this year’s recipient.

California State University, East Bay, military veterans and school staff were treated to a Meet and Greet event hosted by Board Member Delmo Della-Dora on August 29, 2012. CSUEB received $25,000 to help these individuals with their studies and accomplish their educational goals.
