Greater Niles Village: a quest for age-friendliness
Submitted By City of Fremont
On Monday, September 25, renowned surgeon, public health researcher, and writer Dr. Atul Gawande will be speaking at BostonÕs Beacon Hill Village to celebrate 15 years since the VillageÕs founding and the subsequent Village Movement consisting of more than 350 villages across the country.
The Greater Niles Village is the first village to form in Fremont and is proud to be part of this burgeoning Village Movement. The City of Fremont Human Services Department and the Greater Niles Village will be co-hosting a viewing party to witness Dr. GawandeÕs presentation. Dr. GawandeÕs presentation, ÒBeing MortalÕs Villages: The Value of Community and Choice as We Grow OlderÓ will discuss aging, living life with purpose, and how we can transform the possibilities for the later chapters of everyoneÕs lives.
The entire Fremont community is invited to join Greater Niles Village at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Niles Discovery Church. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear Dr. GawandeÕs presentation simulcast from Boston and participate in a discussion afterwards. Refreshments will be provided.
The Village Movement is a growing, global movement that encourages and motivates an alternative approach for community-dwelling adults as they grow older. Villages are unique in that they are created by and for older adults, empowering their members to make wise, safe, and vibrant choices about how they wish to live.
