Historical Society receives high honor

Submitted By Tomasa Due–as

Assemblymember Bill Quirk (D-Hayward) honored the Hayward Area Historical Society (HAHS) as the 2017 Non-Profit of the Year for the 20th Assembly District.

HAHS was founded in 1956 and has focused on the history of Hayward, San Lorenzo, Ashland, Cherryland, Castro Valley, Fairview and other unincorporated areas of Alameda County.

ÒFor the last 60 years, the Hayward Area Historical Society has been an important asset to the community. Historical treasurers and landmarks would have been lost without the dedication of the society,Ó Assemblymember Quirk said. ÒFurther, they take great pride in making the information available to schools, residents and the larger community via temporary and permanent exhibits, tours, classroom presentations and film festivals.Ó

HAHS manages its Museum of History and Culture, the McConaghy House, Meek Mansion and the San Lorenzo Pioneer Cemetery.
