Athletes shine in academics

Submitted By Steve Connolly

Cal State East Bay (CSUEB) has placed 28 student-athletes on the 2017 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Spring All-Academic team. The Pioneers tallied the fourth-highest number of honorees among the 13 schools, trailing UC San Diego (39), Chico State (38), and Cal State San Marcos (29).

CSUEBÕs baseball team led the way with 10 award winners, the highest total of any baseball team in the conference. The menÕs golf team also tied for the most honorees among CCAA programs with four. The Pioneer softball team boasted six honorees, followed by menÕs track & field and womenÕs track & field with five and three, respectively.

To qualify for All-Academic recognition, student-athletes must compete in a CCAA sport with sophomore academic standing or higher and maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average.
