Creating art with the written word

Hayward Arts Council (HAC) presents the upcoming exhibit ÒArts & LettersÓ in the new location of the Foothill Gallery at the Hayward Area Historical Society Museum of History and Culture. This juried exhibit features art with at least one word or words of text in any language. A variety of media including acrylic, pastel, oil, photography, sculpture, wire, repurposed books, mixed media, textiles, jewelry, ceramics, poetry and more will be on display.
Participants are members from Sun Gallery, Hayward Arts Council, and A.R.T., Inc., as well as students from Cal State East Bay, Chabot College, Mt. Eden High, Tennyson High, and Ochoa Middle schools.
Cash awards for first, second, and third places and two honorable mentions will be selected. Join us for the artistsÕ reception and award presentations on Friday, July 7 at the gallery in downtown Hayward. A free demonstration on Chinese calligraphy by Ruey Syrop will be conducted during the reception. The demonstration will be followed up by Saturday afternoon Chinese Brush Calligraphy classes starting July 8, running through August 5. Children 10 and older are welcome to participate.
