Rocha named Alameda County Fire Chief

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors announced the appointment of David Rocha as Interim Alameda County Fire Chief, effective January 1.

Rocha has served as Deputy Fire Chief since 2006, most recently under Fire Chief Demetrious Shaffer who announced his early retirement effective December 31, 2013.

"We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dave Rocha as the Interim Fire Chief,Ó said Keith Carson, President of the Board of Supervisors and Fire District Board. ÒHe will provide stability and strong leadership to the department during this time of transition.ÕÕ

Rocha joined the Alameda County Fire Department in 1995 after eight years with the San Leandro Fire Department. In seven years as Deputy Fire Chief, he has been responsible for the Fire departmentÕs administrative services including the budget during challenging financial times. He also has been closely involved in consolidation efforts geared at achieving regional efficiencies in the delivery of fire services.

Susan S. Muranishi, County Administrator, said, "We look forward to working with Interim Chief Rocha and know that the department, contract cities and the County will benefit from his many years of experience and his commitment to providing efficient and effective regional fire services.Ó
