Presentations and Proclamations:
Mayor Esteves proclaimed October 24, 2013 as ÒWorld Polio Day.Ó In 1988, Rotary, the World Health Organization [WHO], UNICEF, and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention came together to launch the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. More recently, the initiative has benefited from the tremendous support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Milpitas Rotary President Mark Tiernan and Councilmember/Rotarian Debbie Giordano received the proclamation. Polio has been eradicatedÊglobally, except forÊa number of reported cases in Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan.

The City presented 2013 Beautification Awards to owners of properties in the city.
