Acacia Creek residents host Fall Fashion Show
Submitted By Michelle Simone
Residents of Acacia Creek Retirement Community will celebrate their third annual ÒFall Fashion Show and Harvest LunchÓ on Saturday, October 26. The date of the show holds special significance; National Make a Difference Day is a national day of community service and October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Mary Jane Hodges, community outreach manager at Acacia Creek, explains, ÒThe Fashion Show is a way for Acacia Creek residents give back to the local community.Ó
Each year, proceeds from the Fashion Show support local charities. This yearÕs beneficiaries are the New Haven Schools Foundation and HERS Breast Cancer Foundation. Representatives from both organizations will join Acacia Creek residents in modeling clothing donated by local ChicoÕs and MenÕs Warehouse stores.
Acacia Creek resident Elizabeth OÕDonnell, one of this yearÕs models, explains, ÒAs a former teacher, IÕm so glad to be able to support our local schools.Ó
Executive Director of HERS Breast Cancer Foundation Dr. Vera Packard will join OÕDonnell on the runway. Packard says, ÒWe applaud Acacia Creek for supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month with this beautiful event. We are grateful to be one of the beneficiaries for the second time and I am so delighted to be one of the models this year.Ó
Rebecca Venable, president and CEO of New Haven Schools Foundation adds, ÒThe New Haven Schools Foundation is very grateful to the Acacia Creek community for their continued support and we are honored to once again be a beneficiary of this yearÕs Fashion Show. IÕm excited to see what they have planned for this yearÕs festivities.Ó
