Flightcar launches car-sharing program
Submitted By Rosally Sapla
Competition is heating up around US airports in the $30 billion car rental industry; crowded cities feed an $18 billion parking industry. Cambridge-based FlightCar has announced the launch of a new, full-service San Francisco park-and-share program designed to pay car owners between $150 and $400 monthly and avoid parking fees.
"FlightCar Monthly" tackles two problems: the exorbitant cost of parking and the time associated with peer-to-peer car-sharing. FlightCar's CEO Rujul Zaparde expects the program to appeal to busy professionals, college students, downtown residents and monthly customers of public parking garages, specifically those who use their car infrequently.
Enrollment begins Monday, Aug 5 on FlightCar.com/Monthly. There are no fees to participate, but acceptance into the program is required.
FlightCar, founded in July 2012, was launched in San Francisco in February 2013 and currently operates in San Francisco and Boston, with planned expansion to Los Angeles and additional markets in the coming year. For more information, visit FlightCar.com.
