Submitted By Kristen Yasukawa
The Alameda County Office of Education congratulates New Haven Unified employee Celia Raygoza for being named a 2013 California Classified School Employee of the Year by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson. Raygoza is one of six classified school employees in the state honored for outstanding contributions to school operations and student success.
As a Recruiter and Student Advocate for New Haven Unified School District's Migrant Education Program for the past 40 years, Raygoza dedicates her career to the success and well-being of migrant students and families in Alameda County. Raygoza monitors more than 100 migrant students during the school year and co-runs an after-school tutoring program for migrant students.
"Celia's life-long commitment to creating accessible and achievable education opportunities for our most at-need and under-served populations is inspirational," said Sheila Jordan, Alameda County Superintendent of Schools. "I congratulate Celia, and thank her and all of the classified school staff in Alameda County, whose work keeps our schools safe and provides a healthy learning environment for every student."
Raygoza will be honored during Classified School Employee Week, May 19 - 25, at a luncheon on May 23 at the Holiday Inn Capitol Plaza in Sacramento hosted by the California Department of Education.
