A new opportunity to lighten the load and offer soothing relaxation has opened in a well-known Tri-City venue. Every Wednesday night, the Ginger Bar at the Hilton Hotel in Newark is offering a respite with cool, light jazz entertainment. A group of East Bay bands have been signed to provide a musical, non-vocal interlude for hotel guests and the public without cover charges or minimums. Jazz Wednesdays, now in its first month, has, according to Hotel Manager Greg Magee, received a very positive response from hotel guests and the local community. He notes that renovation and expansion of the bar and restaurant, part of a large hotel renovation project, is planned to begin within the next few months. Magee says Wednesday Jazz nights will rotate bands to keep the music fresh, adding, "We are becoming a showcase for East Bay jazz."
