Help Homeless Families This Holiday Season
Submitted By Katie Derrig
As we prepare to spend the holidays with our families and friends, it's a good time to remember the people in our community who are homeless and in need this time of year. By donating to Abode Services, you can help improve the lives of the homeless and formerly homeless people in our programs. Here are ideas for simple gifts that can have a big impact:
Pick up a few $25 gift cards while you're out doing your holiday shopping. Cards to stores like Target, Safeway, Half Price Books, or Payless Shoe Source help families purchase the items they need the most. Another great choice? Pre-loaded Clipper, BART or bus cards.
Put together a gift basket for a job seeker, teenager, or new parents - you can visit www.abodeservices.org for ideas on what to include.
On our website, you'll also find a holiday wish list of other items - from socks to vacuum cleaners - that would be of great help to the participants in our programs. All in-kind donations can be delivered to Sunrise Village Emergency Shelter, 588 Brown Road in Fremont.
Make an easy online donation to help end homelessness for more people in the coming year. You can give right on www.abodeservices.org. And, if you'd like to make your gift on behalf of a friend or family member, just let us know - we'll happily send that person a letter acknowledging your gift.
If you have any questions about these giving opportunities, please contact Community Outreach Director Jean Morgan at (510) 657-7409 ext. 804 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks, and happy holidays!
