Submitted By Fremont PD
On Sunday, November 25, 2012 at approximately 5:50 p.m. Fremont Police received a cellular 9-1-1 call from a frantic female on the 41500 block of Beatrice Street. The female stated that her boyfriend had tied her up and she was in the back yard. Before the phone disconnected, the female was able to provide dispatch with the exact address.
Officers arrived at the residence and quickly went to the backyard. They found the female victim with both hands bound behind her back and a rope cinched around her neck. The rope was connected to a tree configured to hang her. The suspect, who was standing behind her, used the victim as a shield when officers arrived and continued to wrap the rope around her neck. As officers moved in to secure the victim, the suspect pushed her towards an embankment and fled over a side fence. The female victim fell to the ground and officers grabbed her. The suspect ran through several neighboring yards before being taken into custody by officers.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The suspect, Daniel Howard, a 31 year old Fremont resident, was booked into Santa Rita Jail on a charge of attempted homicide.
