Homeless man robs Portland bank for prison stay

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP), Oct 20 - A man who pleaded guilty to bank robbery in Portland is looking forward to his prison sentence.

Fifty-two-year-old Mario Santini is homeless and knew he could find food and shelter by breaking the law.

The Oregonian reports ( he was sentenced Wednesday in federal court to two years in prison. With credit for time served has about another year behind bars.

Santini said he was contemplating suicide before he walked into a bank last December, handed the teller a note and walked out with $565. He immediately confessed three weeks later when a detective told him he looked like the suspect.
