Injury collision at construction site

Submitted By Officer John Flynn, Fremont PD

July 18:
At about 2:46 p.m., Fremont Police Officers responded to a major injury collision involving a semi-truck and a highway worker at a Caltrans work zone on southbound Mission Boulevard near Callery Court. The work zone is part of an ongoing re-pavement project.

Officers found that the worker, a 47 year old male employed by Top Grade Construction, the primary contractor, had sustained major injuries. He was within the highway work zone when struck by a semi-truck delivering asphalt to the worksite. Preliminary investigation revealed that the worker was standing to the rear of the truck when it backed up, knocked him to the ground and pushed him along the roadway surface.

The construction worker was transported to San Jose Regional Hospital where he is in critical condition with a fractured pelvis. There is no indication that drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in this collision.

Any with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact Officer Jacob Shannon or Officer John Flynn at (510) 790-6760.
