On Saturday, July 16, the Mission Valley Barracudas hosted the Newark Bluefins in the sixth East Bay Swim League dual meet. The Barracudas had practiced hard during the past week, as they knew they were competing against a strong team. Before the meet started, the coaches reminded the swimmers to cheer as loud as they could for their team. Throughout the meet, the two teams scores were only a few points apart, but in the end, the Mission Valley Barracudas were able to bring themselves to another win, defeating Newark 546-500, improving to 6-0 on the year.
At this meet, many swimmers improved their times. The following swimmers improved their times by more than three seconds. In freestyle, Gracie Hansen improved her time by more than seven seconds, and Ryon Motamedi improved his time by 3.02 seconds; in backstroke, Ryan Young and Jacob Young each improved their times by almost four seconds; in breaststroke, Melanie Sun improved her time by 7.50 seconds and Ryan Young improved his time by a whopping 25 seconds; in butterfly, Jane Huynh improved her time by almost six seconds and Brian Wheeler improved his time by three and a half seconds.
At the end of the meet, head coach Don French said, "This has been, by far, the most exciting meet, because two of the very best teams were competing against each other. There was a lot of loud cheering which made the meet a lot of fun." With only one more dual meet left, the Mission Valley Barracudas look forward to hosting the Castro Valley Crocodiles on Saturday, July 23.
