Fisherman hooks grenade at Old Hickory Lake

Submitted By AP Wire Service

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP), Jun 24 - A fisherman on the banks of Old Hickory Lake reeled in an explosive catch that police believe was actually a military grenade.

Hendersonville police along with Nashville police, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were called to the Walton Ferry Boat Ramp in Hendersonville after the fisherman hooked the explosive on Thursday evening.

Police reported that device was an M-22 rifle grenade. The Tennessean reported that the bomb unit and federal officials secured the area and detonated the grenade just before midnight.

Lt. Barry Russell of the Hendersonville Police Department stated that they will continue to investigate how the grenade got in the lake.
