FC Fremont and MVU merge as one
Submitted By Fremont Youth Soccer League
In March the Fremont Youth Soccer League Board voted unanimously in favor to consolidate the FC Fremont and Mission Valley United name. FYSL, consisting of the recreational FC Fremont - U-10 through U-19) and MVU Academy - U-4 through U-8 - as well as the competitive MVU Comp - U-9 through U-19 - will now play under one banner, Mission Valley United Soccer Club.
MVU will now move forward as one of the best organized clubs on the East Bay. The merger of the two complimentary entities will serve approximately 3,000 players. The board will remain the same and will continue in their capacity under the one entity.
Executive Director Andrew Donnery will continue to oversee the soccer and business side. Roz Harrington will continue as the MVU club registrar and recreation manager for the U-10 to U-19 age groups. Technical Director Ricky Clarke will now oversee all of the recreation and competitive coaches. And Richard Caldwell will continue on as the club development officer.
The aim of FYSL in joining the two entities will allow the league to further enact the MVU club development plan that will provide the overall strategic framework for the development of the players, parents, coaches and club. It is the FYSL belief that successful clubs have a well-defined organizational structure, detailed player and coach development programs, and excellent administration. Merging FC Fremont and MVU is a step in that direction.
MVU's club development plan covers the following areas: structured program for player development; evaluation of players within the club; coach and parent education; and recruitment of players and coaches.
For the fall, 2011, and spring, 2012, seasons, recreation uniforms will remain the same color (blue and white). In the fall of 2012, MVU plans to change the club recreation uniform to further integrate into the MVU color scheme.
