Soccer tryouts approaching
Submitted By June Heaton
Mission Valley United 93 girls Black, an under 17- and 18-year-old, Fremont-based DI soccer team, is holding open tryouts for the upcoming 2011 season. Girls, ages 16 and 17, looking for an opportunity to display their skills in college showcase tournaments; receive college recruitment consulting; and play highly competitive soccer with a dedicated group of athletes are welcome to attend the tryouts.
Tryouts will take place at Irvington High School's soccer field (located on Blacow Road in Fremont) on Wednesday and Thursday, April 27 and 28, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Last year, MVU 93 girls Black won the California Youth Soccer Association-Cal Soccer League's Bay and Coast Division-Silver Elite, and were champions in the Placer United Prestige Cup. So far this year the team has traveled to Las Vegas for the Mayor's Invitational Showcase, where they were finalists; San Diego for the Nomads Coaches Showcase, reaching the semifinals; and locally at the Juventus Northern California Spring Showcase, finishing fifth. Several new tournaments are scheduled for this year.
