Man finds 10-foot alligator swimming in his pool

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (AP), Apr 14 - A New Port Richey man got a big surprise when he came home for lunch.
Kenneth Donovan says he heard his beagle, Jake, barking Tuesday afternoon and went outside to investigate. That's when he saw a large hole in the screened patio and a 10-foot alligator in the swimming pool.
Donovan called his wife, Annemarie, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which sent alligator trapper Candy Moniz to fetch the gator from the pool.
The gator will be put down under Florida's nuisance policy and Moniz will get to sell the meat and pelt.
Wildlife officials recently issued an advisory about alligators being more active this time of year. Officials urge people to be especially vigilant at dusk and dawn, and to never feed alligators.
