Police and Community Education Seminar
By Meenu Gupta
Milpitas citizens will get a rare chance to view the inner workings of their police department. Police and Community Education seminar (P.A.C.E.S.) program, also known as Citizen's Academy, provides community members with an understanding of how the department operates. "The program will be taught by instructors from within the department and participants will have opportunities to ask questions and participate in discussions," said Officer Asim Qureshi, Milpitas PD.
This free, once a week course runs for six weeks on consecutive Wednesday nights. Topics covered include Community Oriented Policing; arrest and control procedures; gangs; high risk vehicle stops; arrest warrant process; police canine; police S.W.A.T. Team; crime prevention and other areas of interest. Through a series of lectures and staged scenarios, citizens will be provided with hands-on training similar to the actual police academy.
Officer Qureshi says that space is limited so an early application is encouraged. Applicants must live or work in the City of Milpitas.
