Cloudy skies did not stop local athletes from shining at the 11th Annual Chabot College Relays, held March 25 and 26, and hosted by the Chabot College Athletics program.
"Special thanks go to all of the individuals who made this event such a positive experience for our community," said Physical Education/Health Instructor Ken Grace. "More than 700 athletes from 35 middle schools, high schools, community colleges and four-year colleges competed in 88 events at this year's meet."
Following are some of the top performances by Chabot: Don Pearson, Mt. Eden High School graduate, 1st in the long jump with a jump of 23-2 (Nor Cal automatic qualifying mark and a standard for the California state meet); Nate Smauley, attending Las Positas College and running track for Chabot College, 1st in the men's 5,000 meters in 15:48.02 (Nor Cal qualifying mark); Norman Weekes, 1st in the men's 800 meters in 2:00.38; Bruce Guillory, 3rd in the men's shot put at 43-2.25 (Nor Cal qualifying mark); Christine Hadfield, Washington High School graduate, 2nd in the women's javelin at 105-6 (Nor Cal qualifying mark); Joel Becker, winner of heat two in the men's 1,500 in 4:16.68.
