Valentine Adopt-a-thon unites new sweethearts
Submitted By Kelly Grant
Love was "in the air" at Humane Society Silicon Valley's (HSSV) Valentine Adopt-a-thon on Saturday, February 12th at their Animal Community Center (ACC) in Milpitas and satellite adoption centers at PETCO Saratoga and PETCO Sunnyvale. HSSV adoption counselors and volunteer pet socializers helped dozens of adopters find their new "true love." Together, 30 pets found their "forever homes." The love spilled over Sunday and Monday too, with over a dozen more adoptions! With over 900 visitors to the Milpitas site alone, pet lovers were bound to find someone to love!
Adorable dogs from their Foster Care group greeted visitors at the front entrance, sporting heart-studded bandannas, fuzzy red cupid wings, and hot pink mini-skirts. Three of these little "love devils" went home that day!
Cat lovers were treated to a special Valentine "Name your Adoption Fee" promotion for adult cats six months or older. Also participating in the offer were Bay Area rescue groups Itty Bitty Orphan Kitty Rescue, Unconditional Love Animal Rescue, and Nike Animal Rescue Foundation.
Pet lovers of all ages also joined in our Youth Advisory Board's "Giving Tree," hanging nearly 60 paper leaves with heart-felt messages about how their pets have changed their lives.
