Submitted By Battalion Chief Scott Brown
Lucky Supermarket at 777 East Capital Avenue in Milpitas and other nearby businesses had to be evacuated at approximately 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 1 as the supermarket caught fire. Milpitas Fire Department units responded.
Heavy smoke and fire was seen coming from the rear storage area of the complex. The fire started in the rear loading area of the supermarket. Overhead power lines providing the primary electrical supply to the building were damaged. All merchants were forced to close their stores when power and gas supplies were shut down for the night until Pacific Gas & Electric restored gas and electric power to the complex. No injuries were reported.
Thirteen firefighters, two Engine Companies, one Mobile Command Unit, two Ladder Trucks, and four police officers battled the one-alarm fire. The situation was brought under control in 20 minutes. Estimated property loss has not been determined. |
