Sending valentine hearts to our troops
St. Edward School 3rd Grade Service Project
Submitted By Rosanne Lyon Photos By Anne Marcus
Girls on the CYO third grade volleyball team at St. Edward School in Newark spent a recent Sunday afternoon creating beautiful valentine cards for our U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Pink and white construction paper, stickers, foam valentine cutouts and markers were the materials the girls used to create their wonderful masterpieces.
Anne Marcus, the girls' coach, contacted the Blue Star Moms to get permission for the girls to make the cards for our soldiers. The organization is comprised of mothers who have children currently serving or who have served in the military.
The Valentine's Day cards were delivered to the Alameda County Blue Star Moms at their monthly meeting at the Veterans Hall in Fremont on February 2. The Blue Star Moms will send these Valentine Cards (and lollipops) to military personnel in areas of conflict. Our hope is that this small gesture will bring happiness to their hearts and let them know that we are thinking about them and praying for their safe return to the U.S. God bless our troops! |
