Let the good times roll, or in Cajun French, "Laissez les bons temps rouler" is the catch phrase being heard this year as the Excellence in Education Gala takes on a distinctively New Orleans flavor and theme. The Fremont Education Foundation (FEF) is holding its annual fundraising event on Friday, February 25, to raise funds for the Innovative Education Grants benefiting Fremont's public school classrooms.
As the current budget crisis shows no immediate sign of abating, funds to support educational classroom activities and programs are needed more than ever, to improve and elevate students' achievement and learning. To assist with this financial gap, FEF as an independent non-profit foundation since 1991 has stepped up to support the community's schools, teachers and students through its generous grant programs. Over the years, more than 200 grants have been awarded to classroom teachers, benefiting thousands of local students.
"This year, we will be able to show our donors first hand where their dollars have gone, and its direct impact to our schools," says 2011 Gala Chair, Desrie Campbell. "Their continued support is critical during these challenging economic times."
At the fundraising gala, one of the evening's highlights is the recognition of a FUSD employee and a community member for their involvement and contributions to education. This year, Fremont's former Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and current Pleasanton Schools Superintendent, Parvin Ahmadi will be honored alongside Dale Hardware, a local business and longtime contributor to the Fremont community.
David Louie, a well-known reporter from ABC7 News will be the Master of Ceremonies for the gala. Musical entertainment by the StarStruck Show Stoppers, game booths provided by business associations, a raffle and silent auction all add to the festivities.
"We are delighted and excited about this year's gala," adds Campbell, "and look forward to having a 'Good Time' as we celebrate the work that our teachers have accomplished with our students.
Attendees are encouraged to join in and have fun by dressing for the New Orleans themed evening, while supporting a great cause. See y'all there!
