2011 Boy Scouts of America Friends of Scouting Dinner

Submitted By Celeste Hornberger

It has been said that if every boy in America knew and observed the Boy Scout Oath, we could do away with most of the jails and prisons in this country. Although no longer a boy, Alan L. Olsen, Managing Partner of Bay Area CPA firm Greenstein, Rogoff, Olsen & Co., continues to live the Oath and is chairing a $1M fundraising event for the San Francisco Bay Area Council's Friends of Scouting on February 17, 2011.

Friends of Scouting provides roughly one-quarter of the money needed to operate the San Francisco Bay Area Council's Scouting camps, programs and facilities for a calendar year. These camping and training facilities are the "outdoor classrooms" in which Scouts have fun, learn leadership skills and develop into better young men. All funds raised on February 17 will assist the Boy Scout Council in its efforts to serve almost 20,000 youth, of whom many hundreds are deemed to be "at-risk," during the year.

The event, held at the Oakland Marriott City Center Hotel, will feature dynamic speakers and community leaders: Chairman and CEO of KOA Kampgrounds of America, Inc., Jim Rogers; NBA All-Star and Two- time Defensive Player of the Year, Mark Eaton; and Rotary International President (2001-2002), Richard King.

This is a great opportunity for local businesses and individuals to become involved in our communities.

"More than anything, what our country, communities and families need right now are everyday folks who can rise above their own circumstances to give back to the community. In doing so, they become true leaders - and that's exactly what we need right now," notes Olsen.

Sponsorships of varying levels are still available for the dinner. For more information or to make a donation to Friends of Scouting, visit or contact Development Director Scott Evans at (510) 577-9454 and or Rebecca Seipert at (510) 797-8661 and
