Nightly lane closures for Dumbarton Bridge
Submitted By Bart Ney
Motorists are advised that beginning Monday, January 31, 2011 through August 2012, Caltrans will close up to two bridge lanes in each direction on the Dumbarton Bridge (State Route 84) to perform seismic retrofit work. The pedestrian/bicycle path will remain open. Lane closures will be limited to weekday overnight hours to minimize impacts to motorists and bicyclists.
Friday night, February 4 into Saturday morning, February 5, 2011 Westbound: Lanes 2 and 3 may close overnight and may begin as early as 8 p.m. All westbound lanes will re-open by 11 a.m. the next morning.
Eastbound: Lanes 2 and 3 may close overnight and may begin as early as 9 p.m. All eastbound lanes will re-open by 11 a.m. the following morning.
The Dumbarton Bridge, part of the Toll Bridge Program, is undergoing a seismic safety retrofit which includes reinforcing the existing concrete slab bridge, replacing major deck joints and installing isolation bearings. The retrofit is contracted to Shimmick Construction Co., Inc. (SCCI), Oakland.
