Fremont City Council seeks to fill vacancy
Submitted By Dawn G. Abrahamson, MMC
The Fremont City Council announced its plan to appoint one person to fill the City Council seat made vacant when Bob Wieckowski was elected to serve as State Assemblymember representing the 20th District.
Those interested in being considered for the appointment to serve on the Fremont City Council are invited to complete a City Council Vacancy Application and Supplemental Questionnaire. The application and supplemental questionnaire can be obtained online at www.Fremont.gov/CouncilVacancy or at Fremont City Hall, located at 3300 Capitol Ave., Building A. Completed applications and questionnaires must be returned to the Office of the City Clerk no later than Monday, December 13, at noon.
Once the application period has closed, applications and questionnaire responses will be distributed to the City Council for review. Based upon the response, the City Council will decide on December 14 which process to use for the appointment, including:
1. Make a selection based on discussion of the candidates; or
2. Decide to rank the top candidates and conduct interviews; or
3. Decide to interview all candidates and then make its decision.
If the City Council decides to interview all candidates and there are a large number, a special City Council meeting will be held December 15, 16, or 17 (time to be determined at the December14 Council Meeting). A special City Council meeting on January 3 could serve as an alternate time for interviews of the top ranked candidates. The Council has indicated it intends to make a selection by January 4.
Interest in serving on the City Council of the City of Fremont is greatly appreciated. All applicants must be a Fremont resident. For more information contact the Office of the City Clerk at (510) 284-4060.
