The Tri-City League of Volunteers (LOV) is planning on serving 5,000 people on Thanksgiving Day at the Newark Pavilion or delivered to the homebound in Fremont, Newark, Union City, Hayward, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, and Castro Valley. The date is fast approaching and there is a desperate shortage of the following: turkeys (short 261), hams (short 88), cranberry sauce (need 240 cans), pre-baked pies (short 436), instant potato mix (need 150 large boxes), Stove Top Dressing Mix (need 60 large boxes), sandwich bread (need 200 loaves), chicken broth (need 24 large cans), canned corn (need 315), canned green beans (need 366), canned yams (need 84 29 oz. cans), oval aluminum roasting pans (need 400), mayonnaise packets (need 2,500), butter (25 1 lb. boxes and individual patties box of 400), bottled water (20 cases of 24 oz.), desert plates (need 2,000), sandwich bags (need 2,100), and Sterno (need 36 cans).
These are just a few of the many food supply items needed to help make this a happy holiday for those in need or those that are alone this Thanksgiving. You may also call (510) 793-5683 for an update on needs. LOV's Community Service Center at 36120 Ruschin Drive, Newark in the former Ruschin School is open to receive donations Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Or you may call for pick up. If you don't have time to shop, monetary donations are very much welcome so that we may purchase what is needed.
