Costume Parade

Spooky ghosts and goblins are about to celebrate their favorite night of the year, Halloween, this weekend especially at Chadbourne Carriage House in Fremont. The Candle Lighters have been hosts for these ethereal residents for the past 41 years, guiding corporeal visitors through their haunts. Easily identified in orange coats, Candle Lighters raise funds for local charitable organizations through a small admission charge to this year's "Haunted Village" and operation of a midway of games and goodies.

A Costume Parade allows the younger set to display their finest attire in tribute to Halloween. This year, the parade will be held on the last day of the 2010 Ghost House, Saturday, October 30 at 2 p.m. and resident spirits are expected to be especially active in preparation for Halloween festivities the following evening. Led by the American High School Marching Band and kindly witches and fairies, contestants will display their creative endeavors and receive goodie bags for their efforts. Prizes will also be awarded within several age categories.

Although a visit to the Ghost House can be alarming for the unwary, the Candle Lighters have created a cadre of good fairies to escort those in need of protection. With four decades of experience mediating contact between Halloween spirits and visitors, all ages and scare tolerance are accommodated. Come for the parade, have fun at the midway and visit the Haunted Village if you dare. This is the ultimate family adventure that supports the community as well.
