By Dr. Ray Grimm Today, the fastest growing segment of the population are those who are living beyond 100 years of age. While studies suggest that what we did when we were younger affects how we age, our current lifestyle will significantly influence our abilities to achieve a happy and healthy life. Researchers have identified several factors that influence later life, including healthy nutrition, active lifestyles, community engagement, life-long learning, and an attitude toward life that is full of zest and optimism. Come join the Four Seasons of Health Expo and learn about healthy aging. Sponsored by the Tri-City Elder Coalition, Washington Hospital Health Care System, Fremont's Human Services Department and others, the Expo focuses on health -- nutrition, physical activity, lifelong learning, community engagement, and informed healthcare. The Expo features speakers on physical activity, technology, active aging, maintaining a healthy brain, medication management, integrative medicine, and nutrition. In addition, 35 vendors serving older adults will be present to share their latest technologies and services. Demonstrations will be given on Qigong, brain exercises, healthy cooking, and Laughing Yoga. Representatives from all the major healthcare and hospitals organizations and senior service providers will be on hand to conduct blood pressure checks, nutritional reviews and medication management. The Fremont Senior Center will host a "cafˇ" and sell healthy food and smoothies throughout the event. Parking is available behind Fremont City Hall, 3300 Capitol Avenue, and a shuttle will be available to and from the event. However, participants are encouraged to take public transportation, which is relatively easy, as the event is directly across from the Fremont BART station. There is no need to register.
