A disappointing seasons for the John F. Kennedy High girls volleyball team became even more disappointing last Wednesday, Sept. 23, when the Titans dropped their fourth in a row when they were swept by James Logan High in three sets.

The 3-0 sweep by the Colts marks not just Kennedy's fourth straight loss, but the fourth time they've been swept during the current losing streak, losing 11 consecutive sets. Kennedy will take on the Huskies of Washington High on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 4 p.m.

American goes 2-for-2 in Irvington tournament; Newark goes one-and-done
After seeing their 5-0 start go down the drain in their loss against Irvington High on Wednesday, Sept. 23, the Eagles came back strong in Saturday's Irvington tournament, defeating Berkeley High, 2-1, and Del Mar High, 2-0.

American improves their record to 7-1 on the season as they'll take on Newark Memorial High, in Newark, on Tuesday, Sept. 28.

The Cougars didn't have it so lucky at the Irvington tournament however.

Newark Memorial entered the tournament on a four-match win streak, that of which included back-to-back sweeps of Skyline and Hayward high schools, but fell 2-0 to Livermore's Granada High in the opening round.

Washington 3, Deer Valley 2
The Huskies did not make it easy in their match against Deer Valley, however a strong finish is always better than a strong start.

Thus was the case in this match as Washington went the distance against Deer Valley, defeating them 3-2 (11-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-11). The win by the Huskies is their second straight win since dropping back-to-back games at the end of their six match road trip on Sept. 18.

Mission San Jose 3, Irvington 1
After dropping their first three matches of the season, the Warriors found a way to notch their first victory of the season, defeating Irvington 3-1. Mission San Jose will take on American High on Sept. 30 at 5:15 p.m.
