Thirty years ago in June 1979 a need within a community was seen and a solution devised. In the process, a dynamic organization was built that continues to provide services to seniors today. Located in Central Park, the City's first Senior Center has increased awareness of the needs of the elderly while involving dedicated volunteers committed to meeting those needs.
The Center is celebrating 30 years of service to the seniors on Thursday evening, September 23. "Our center has been a 'second home' to thousands of seniors who have laughed and played, enjoyed friendships old and new, learned and explored new ideas and vistas, shared wonderful meals, and traveled the globe together," said Center's Manager Linda Olla. The Open House will include a short presentation by local dignitaries, followed by a video about the center. Hors d'oeuvres will be served, as Seniors share their talent for song and dance. The event is free and no reservations are required. For more information, please call (510) 790-6600 or visit www.fremont.gov.
