Officer Todd Young recovering
Submitted By Chief Craig T. Steckler, Fremont PD
On behalf of the Fremont Police Department and Todd Young's wife Nicole and his two children we want to express our most profound thank-you to the community members who have donated blood, and sent their well wishes as well as those that have kept Officer Todd Young and his family in their thoughts and prayers. Blood drives have been held and according to the Red Cross they were expecting 650 units of blood and have now surpassed 1,300 units donated with more blood drives planned for this weekend.
Officer Young was shot on Friday, August 27 attempting to serve an arrest warrant on a gang member. He and his partner Officer Eric Tang were fired on by the suspect; Officer Young was hit twice in the pelvic region. Officer Young was transported to Highland Hospital Trauma Center where emergency room physicians spent over two hours working to save his life. He took 60 units of blood during the medical procedures. Fortunately Officer Young now appears to be out of harms way; he has had six surgeries so far. Doctors are confident that he will survive but Young will have a six month or longer recuperation and rehabilitation period. |
