Submitted By Art Carey
Robert Garfinkle of Union City has been elected president of the 1,300-member California Writers Club. The club, founded by Jack London and fellow authors in 1909, has 18 branches throughout the state.
Garfinkle, a former City Council member in Union City, is the author of two astronomy books, numerous astronomy articles, and book reviews. In 2008, he co-founded Fremont Area Writers, the centennial branch of California Writers Club. During the two years of his presidency, the local branch grew from a handful of members to more than 40.
A life member of the California Writers Club, he joined the South Bay Writers branch in 2002 and was its representative to the club's Central Board from 2003-2007. He served on the staff of two previous East of Eden Writers Conferences. The next conference will be held in Salinas September 24-26.
The Fremont Area Writers meet on the fourth Saturday of each month at DeVry University, Room 204, 6600 Dumbarton Circle, Fremont. Call Richard Scott for more information at (510) 791-8639. |
