Bill Mancebo's Player Spotlight

This week the player spotlight hits Union City to find martial artist Talissa Noriega.

Noriega is an advanced martial artist who practices at the level of purple belt. Noriega works the mat with folk style wrestling maneuvers at both Dragon's Den Kajukenbo Club in Union City and Alvarado middle school. She recently placed third in the state as a wrestling talent.

Talissa, 13, plays basketball too and that's done for the Christian Youth Organization, St. Anne's Mavericks team. She keeps in top shape for her sports with lots of running. Not only does she compete in long distance and the 800 meter but also runs with her family pretty much every night.

Her studies at Alvarado Middle School help keep her sharp and she'll soon be returning to the eighth grade there and her favorite subjects of geometry, PE and forensics. Talissa is leaning towards leadership classes in the autumn that will allow her to coordinate events and activities such as dances and carnivals. This myriad of experience will all lead her to a final career destination in becoming a pediatrician someday soon.

Communication is another favorite subject for Noriega with text and AIM messaging sitting at the top of her fun-to-do list. Travel being the next destination for enjoyment includes days at the beach and camping. She's looking forward to a return to Cancun, one of her favorite beach stops.

For favorite food, Jollibee is the spot. There she can order her favorite dish on the menu which is spaghetti. For dessert she'll have a complex order of strawberries dipped in a marshmallow cream cheese mixture.
