Conn. store employee says no to robber
Submitted By AP Wire Service
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP), Jul 30 _ New Haven police say a brave doughnut store clerk _ maybe too brave _ thwarted a robbery attempt by repeatedly telling the suspect no, despite his threat to shoot everyone in the store.
Officer Joe Avery says police don't recommend resisting someone with a gun like Dunkin' Donuts employee Teresa Zito did at a downtown store Wednesday afternoon. Just last week, a city convenience store worker was stabbed eight times during a scuffle with robbers.
Zito told the New Haven Register that the suspect handed her a note demanding money and making it clear he was ready to start shooting. She says the suspect stormed out of the store empty handed after her repeated denials.
Zito says she now believes she should have given the man the money.
The suspect remains at large.
