Zero tolerance is a joke

The blitzkrieg we experienced on July 4th is positive proof that zero tolerance of illegal fireworks in Newark is a big joke. Police can do nothing about it unless they actually see a person lighting them. Therefore these criminals can continue to shoot off roof shaking, window rattling, bomb-like fireworks whenever they please.

These law breakers have absolutely no regard for children crying in terror in nearby homes or law abiding citizens losing a nights' sleep because of them. Nor would they care at all that many children are still traumatized by this experience.

I appealed to the police several times for help, but they were just overwhelmed, as usual, with a multitude of complaints. They wouldn't have been able to do anything if they had responded, because under the law, they would have to actually see an individual light these rockets. I'm sure they didn't have a very pleasant evening either, trying to soothe citizens who were rightfully angry about this situation.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised to discover that gatherings of beer guzzling, pot smoking, crackheads and just plain inconsiderate nincompoops entertain themselves often with this version of rockets red glare and bombs bursting in air unless we find a legal solution to put a stop to it. Maybe, if we all complain loud enough, a good solution can be found.
